i have a 2004 530i the automatic trans it's showing codes P17EF manufacture controlled transmission and PO 700 trans control system malfuntion. When I drive the car a symbol of a red gear with a explantion point comes up on the dash and the car slows down. The car has about 180,000 miles on it. A guy I know who works on BMWs said it might be the control modular under the shifter stick in the console. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

The P17EF is the manufacturer specific code for the actual transmission problem. P17EF means you have a problem with the 2-1 downshift possibly from a slipping clutch or sticking solenoid.
