i have a 2004 530i the automatic trans it's showing codes P17EF manufacture controlled transmission and PO 700 trans control system malfuntion. When I drive the car a symbol of a red gear with a explantion point comes up on the dash and the car slows down. The car has about 180,000 miles on it. A guy I know who works on BMWs said it might be the control modular under the shifter stick in the console. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

You posted a E60 chassis question in the E36 forum. What module did you pull this code out of? The P0700 is just that you have a transmission problem. The P17EF is the manufacturer specific code for the actual transmission problem. P17EF means you have a problem with the 2-1 downshift possibly from a slipping clutch or sticking solenoid.
