My wife owns a 1993 bmw 325i automatic with only 137000 km on the clock. Recently, at normal temperature, the gear lever refuses to shift from "drive" to "park" and it even has to be forced. We are told that there could be moisture in the transmission. This causes the selector valve on the valve body to swell up when hot and so gets sticky and even jams as it does. If this is the problem, is it possible to replace this part, from where could we order it and at what estimated cost? Would one have to remove the valve body to fit the new part? Could you please advice us how to deal with this problem as the vehicle is otherwise still in almost brand new shape and needed for daily use.

- Nick I would remove the shifter cable from the trans and then see if the shifter in the car will move freely, and then also check to see if the selector lever at the trans will move. If the lever at the trans will not move with the cable disconnected then the problem is inside the trans. If it does move then the problem is at the shifter or the cable. |
