I have a 96 BMW 328 and just hooked a aftermarket radio up. Its wired correctly and sound in front is fine but I basically have no sound from rear.

Depending on the system installed in the car at the factory you could have an amp for the rear speakers, you would have to bypass it,. I would double check all the connections you made and also check the condition of the rear speakers.
