I have a BMW 98 E36 328IS. My instrument panel oil pressure light was flashing. My mechanic recommended replacing the oil sensor switch. I did this and it still flashes at idle. What is normal oil pressure at operating speed above idle?

Should be 12 - 15 psi when warm at idle, should be around 50 psi when cold at idle.

Angry Red Oil Pressure Light Flashing

So, what are my options here in solving this continuing problem?

Replacing the oil pump will be expensive.

What can I do here to determine what is creating the oil pressure instrument light flashing?

Also, my oil pressure doesn't register 50 PSI at cold idle.

One other thing, my oil level is at the recommended level.

I do use 10W 30 and have used this oil since over the last 10 plus years.

This is really causing me frustration...

Martin
