Hi, i live in the Caribbean Island of Jamaica and have a 1996 735i. Less than a year after i overhauled the transmission, the car shut down and when scanned i got the error message incorrect gear ratio. The car cranks but will not start. I noticed that it appears fluid was leaking from the tranny and i have not tested to see how much is actually in it. Before the shutdown, all traction control lights came on. Any ideas what might be the problem?

The fault code refers to a slipping in the transmission. However, this should cause the engine not to start.
If your engine doesn’t start you’ll want to check the basics. Check spark, fuel injector pulse and pressure fuel, volume and quality. Once you figure out what is missing, it will be easier to diagnose. - Nick |
