Just bought a 2003 525i and both front door locks do not lock automatically with the switch or the remote. I replaced one actuator and that did nothing. Also the windows do not go down when you hold the remote button but the back windows do.

You could have a bad GEM (General Electric Module). It receives the door lock and unlock inputs and controls the actuators. Check all your fuses.
