hello have a 2000 bmw 323i starts then dies. if i spray starter fluid in it starts and run fine. idle control valve and fuel pump replaced and still same problem. once started with very little starter fluid it will start again no problems but give it a hour and i have to spra it again fires up and fine again. i held the car at 110 mph for 10 minutes and all power seems there and everything runs fine just doesnt like to start with out a little starter fluid any ideas. only code is maf sensor this shouldnt stop it from starting any help?

Sounds like a fuel delivery problem. Check fuel injector pulse and pressure fuel, volume and quality.

Sounds to me like a temperature sensor problem that is telling the fuel injection system that the car is warm when it is actually cold. I don't think that the intake air sensor was in the MAF in 2001, I think it was in the bottom center of the intake manifold, but I have been wrong before.

The usual suspect with temperature sensor problems is the water temperature sensor in the side of the head. The key is distinguishing between the sensor that drives the dash gauge and the sensor that talks to the fuel injection. Most cars use two separate sensors for those functions, and a third to control the electric fan. You are interested only in the one that talks to the fuel injection.

That being said, if you have never replaced the fuel filter on a 15-year-old car, you should do that for general principles. Instructions here: Fuel_Filter
