I have a 99 e36 with fully auto and the top will lift in the front and rear but the "tonneau" cover will not raise. I can hear the motor running but the cover will not lift. Any ideas where to start? Also my RPS light is illuminated; could this have something to do with the problem?

I would try to assist the cover, once open, check that the linkage is connected and in good condition.
