Question on BMW 3-Series Convertible

I have owned my 2003 Z4 electric soft top for over a year now and have thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it. I have one problem though. A couple of months back for a short period of time I had trouble with the top not going up or coming down. The light would flash. I'm thinking it may have been something I was doing wrong as it hasn't done it again since. Around about that time it started jolting in one spot just before it finishes going down. It appears to be catching the fabric? on the 'stowage compartment catch' when coming down, jolting as it comes down over the catch. Am I able to fix this myself? I'm hoping a simple adjustment maybe?

I would inspect the motor. It is tough to get to as the top as to be removed. There is a common issue with water intrusion and corrosion on the motor and pump.
