Changed my E36 guibo a year ago and it failed again. I believe I may have damaged the old one by tightening the bolts instead of the nuts. That is, twisting the bolt while tightening could twist the metal sleeve bonded into the guibo and cause premature failure.
The Bentley manual does state to be careful of this and to hold the bolt in a fixed position while tightening.
Hopefully, this will help some.
