3 strange beeps while driving

Recently got a 1993 325is, 5sp, OBC, 90kmiles. Invariably, after driving 5 or more miles, I hear 3 beeps, about 1/2 second apart. This is never repeated until the next time the engine is started and driven some miles. I tell my wife that it's the mother ship checking up on us, but I'd really like to know what is going on. There are no warning lights glowing and no messages on the OBC. Please don't tell me that I'm starting to hear things!

check what time it is when your car does this. At 59 past the hour (ie- 3:59 pm), my 328 beeps 3 times to let me know that its on the hour. If its the same as mine, its just a way to tell you the time

Thanks, I finally have the beeps under control! The signal over the AM/PM in the clock sure isn't an eye-catcher, though. I guess there are more little gems to wonder about as I drive?

You can also get beeps when the temp gets down to 38 degrees - BMW trying to warn that there might be ice on the road.. mine went off for the first time when I was pushing hard through a corner on an unlit country road. I nearly threw the car off the road I jumped so much. Grrr... damned germans!

No, like you I have friends who live in Koln; been there several times. I bought an E30 323i there in 1985 and brought it back with me to CA.
