Hi, i have a 1996 bmw 328i, my check engine light recently came on so i checked it with my launch diagnostic tool and it read code 41, camshaft sensor. so i went ahead ahead and ordered a new one then while i was doing that did a few other things to the car. after i was done i started the car back up only to find the check engine light to still be on, i read the codes again and still got code 41 and cleared it several times only for it to instantly return. is it just a dud sensor or could it be another problem. Thanks!

It could be a defective sensor, or the signal from the sensor is not getting to the DME> I would test the signal from the camshaft sensor to the DME.
