I recently determined that I need to replace the computer on my '92 525i. A fuel injector was stuck open and I traced it back to the computer. My car came with the ecu 403 and I found a 402 to try and swap it with. While the injector issue appears to be resolved, the engine does not run very well. The idle is fluctuating, the engine is rough, and it does not want to rev. Can having the 402 in my car cause these sort of issues?

I would think so. If the part numbers do not match exactly, the vehicle may not perform properly due to soft- and hardware differences.
