I have 84 318i that I just put a brand new alternator on and it keeps dying I ran a new power cord from the battery straight to the alternator and my ground wire look to be ok, so my question is why wont it charge my battery

What is battery voltage engine off and when the engine is running? What is the voltage at the alternator on all terminals and the housing? You could have a bad wire, alternator or voltage drop issue.
