jahsan,
I would reccommend changing the struts at the same time. First, if you go to lowering springs with stock struts, you can actually cause damage to the strut assemblies themselves as they were not designed to work with the shorter travel of the springs. In order to replace the springs, you will have to remove the struts anyway. You really need to have struts in the car that are designed to work with lowering springs. The handling characteristics of the car may be affected for the worse by using stock struts. Also too, the ride height may not be lowered as much with stock struts. Also H & R springs are VERY stiff. I can imagine that the handling would be very squirrley with stock struts and H & R's. These springs are usually for track use, rather than regular street use. I know of people that have installed them and are unable to use the CD player due to skipping, because the ride is too stiff. If you are looking to simply lower the car for looks, I'd reccomend going to Eibach springs. They are less stiff, and from what I understand, can be used with stock struts. |
