Hi I have a bmw 318i se touring. The problem is that I start it in morning and it starts then cuts out. I can get it started by turning it and flooring it for a couple of minutes and it splutters then eventually fires and good to go and drives fine all the way to work. It sometimes does it when im about to go home but not always especially if ive tried starting it on my lunch which it always starts first time and doesn't cut out. The fuel pump was changed and so was mass air flow meter by my dad Former mechanic of over 30 years who bought it as a non runner got it running then sold it to me. It was starting fine until just after Christmas. My dad thinks it could be the cam sensor but is not 100%. Any ideas would be appreciated.

When your engine doesn’t start you’ll want to check the basics. Check spark, fuel injector pulse and fuel pressure, volume, quality and engine compression. Are there any fault codes? Once you figure out what is missing, it will be easier to diagnose.
