BMW Roundel Alarm Question

I recently bought a 1998 318ti. When I arm and disarm the alarm it doesnt chirp. My boss has an M3 with the same alarm system and his does. Neither of us have manuals but I have heard that there is a way to set it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

On the key fob, push and hold both buttons for more that 3 seconds. This enables/disables the "chirp" when enabling/disabling the alarms system.
Let us know if it works.
