Where can I find the DME on my 93 318i? How can I take it out and check to see if there is water in it?

Ok, if you open up the hood, look on the firewall on the passenger side. You will see three round plasitc clips that are holding the insulation in place on the fire wall. Remove these three clips. Once the clips are out pull back the insulation, it won't come out completely since there are a few more clips on the bottom holding it on, but you can still pull it out of the way. You will now see a plastic cover with 3 screws running accross the top and one on the right side. Unscrew these screws and remove the plastic cover. With the cover removed, you are now looking at the DME compartment. If you have an automatic transmission, you will see two boxes, one on top of the other. The top one is the A/T and the bottom one is the DME computer. If you have a manual, you will just see the DME computer. You pull the DME out just as if you were pulling a baking pan out of your oven. Hope this helps.

I should also add that you want to disconnect the battery before pulling out the DME. You can send a spike through it and fry the DME if the battery is connected.
