Just read something from BMW that said not to lube the sliders. I've always lubed the sliders on every non-BMW brake job I've done

You didn't mention what vehicle or axle of the vehicle you are working on, so I can't comment. I will say, I usually lubricate all sliders with silicone brake lubricant.
