I just posted your question on the Puget Sound Chapter BMW BBS. I'll have something for you tomorrow. I an assuming your locking for a LSD?? If you looking for a different final drive ratio (3.23:1 va 2.93:1) you'll need a 97 or later.

Yup, its possible. 3:23 came in auto9 95M3 and then all 96-99 M3 5speeds. Just use your flanges off your 2.93
PS. Let me know if youre getting rid of that 2.93 diff

My CCA friends said yes. The 96 M3 has the same ratio (2.93) as your 328. Go with one from 97 or newer.
Keith ps - I thought I read somewhere that the diffs out of the automatics wouldn't work in manual cars.

Youll see a good difference from your 2.93 to a 3.23

3.38 or 3.46 diffs are out there also , along with custom ones. It all depends on how crazy you wanna get.
