mine did not close properly, leaving a 3-4 mm space.
it's normal

My 83' has K-jet, so I can't say from personal experience since I've got a cold start valve instead of an air slide valve, but I thought the 84-85 318i models had an electrically-generated version. Either way, if you want to check it, just warm up the engine, then clamp down the hose which goes to the idle bypass screw housing, and if it the engine stalls a little, you know that valve is bad. Not sure if it needs to completely close or not, however. Hope that helps.

thanks for the reply
I bypassed the idle pipe, excluding the valve, the engine responds better, and rides down direct to 850 rpm, perfect, after I noticed that about 15 seconds, the car lurches about 500 rpm, is this normal?

thank you

you know the piece in the picture?
thank you

anyone knows the precise operation and what is it, and how you adjust this piece? thanks
