Hi. This is a great forum, thanks! I have a 1989 535i and the passenger seat will only elevate on the left side of the seat, the right side won't go up so now I have the seat flat as it completely twists out of shape when I try to raise it. Is this particular case fixable?

Sounds like the cables have pulled apart. You can usually fix this pretty easy. Remove the seat, then inspect the seat drive cables (from the motors). Look for loose ones pulled out of the cable end. Once the old ones are removed, you can manually crank the seat back to the right position. Replace with new.
