Black,

just for our other posters, all you have to do is simply pull up on the old knob. You may need to use a bit of force to do this, but they all just pull off. In some cases, there arte cars with lighted shift knobs, i.e. twhen you turn on the headlights, the shift knob lights up too. In this case, use caution while pulling, as there are two wires running through the shift boot and up into the knob. If you break the wires, they could short against the shifter rod and start to fry electrical components.

speaking of shift knobs, I finally got a set of set screws for my momo knob. Before, I had to exercise extreme caution when shifting because my hand kept spinning off the loose knob. Now it feels like I have so much more control over the car! What a difference it makese!

Stupenal,

try running a wrap of electrical tape around the rod as well. This will give the screws a pliable suface to catch as well as providing a spacer for the knob.

The ultimate hold on the shift knob hands down is the “titanium drill bit hold”. Get the new knob, find and hold the position. Get a titanium drill bit (about 1/8”) and drill about 1/8” deep in each of the holding screws slots. Yes, you must take the screws out to do this and one other thing I recommend is having your buddy hold the knob in place while you drill the tiny holes. Do this and you will have the “ultimate titanium drill bit hold”.
