I have a set of the stock tubing headers off of a later model. I found very poor workmanship with in the headers. One of the joints was restricting the other tube at least 30 to 40 percent. Wish I had a decent digital camera to post a picture.

My experience with headers dates back to the 60's and the burgeoning drag racing scene. Being a tech head I read everything I could and helped make many header sets for everything from Corvairs to hemi heads. It's surprising what works and what doesn't.

The cast iron exhaust is pretty much the same geometry as the steel tubing. Just a bit heavier. So, yes the tubing headers are better than the cast iron because of the weight loss.
