it comes down to cca. They are wired in parallel to get the cca to turn over the engine.
Shouldn't be a problem to run it short term until he gets a pair of new batteries.
If you're in Texas. I wouldn't be surprised if one battery is bad by year two or three that it is now.
Also to sell a truck over a dead battery is astonishing.
