Give it a few years.
E46 is a legend, and it's becoming harder and harder to find non-trashed ones.
At some point, you will see a non-M low mileage unicorn E46 sell for big money on BAT.
Just like the ones that came before it.
speeder, i like your analysis. But, have you driven an E46?
You should test drive at least one before dismissing the entire gen.
