I did replace the TPS and unfortunately it was a miserable failure. I find that's the usual case when you're guessing but it was a good guess. Even the BMW mechanic that has been working on them for 20 years thought that might be the problem. Electronics can be a tricky thing. So I'm still searching for an answer. It may be the transmission control module but that's a much too expensive part to take a chance on.
