Caliper springs? Did my friend's brakes the other week. He also complained about a single thump.Found a broken wish bone type of spring. Don't know yet if that's culprit.

So, before inpecting your hardware, lift that suspect wheel off the ground, grab it at the 3 & 9 o'clock and feel for looseness (steering) then try the 12 and 6 o'clock position (wheel bearing). Put a 3 foot 2x4 lever under the wheel and check for looseness (ball joints).I've even gotten on the bumper and jounced some cars (rubber bushings). Where I used to work, we paid for our mistakes.
