I'm pretty sure the outboard edge of the 9's actually sticks out over a 1/4" more than the 8's but like I said, the saving grace is that the centerline of the tire is sucked inboard 0.173" (due to the 4.4mm increase in offset) which should net you more fender clearance w/ the 9's as compared to the 8's (like you said
) w/ the same size tire on each.
