Vinyl wrap is relatively inexpensive compared to paint and completely reversible. Assuming the current paint is sound, adhering to the base, and just "ugly", it might make more sense to wrap the car to improve appearance and save up for a higher-quality paint job. The wrap also serves to protect the paint under it.
