Removing tie rod ends the easy way

I tore my front suspension out today for a rebuild and since I don't have a tool to remove the tie rod ends, I had to be creative. This worked great....

With the wheel off and jack stands under the car, measure the distance from the floor to the arm where the tie rod connects and add 1\4" . I cut a piece of scrap square tubing to that dimension and placed it under the arm and as close to the tie rod end as possible and the other end to the concrete below. You have to tap it in place as it lifts the arm against the torsion bar tension. Now the arm is supported! One good smack with a brass hammer and those tie rod ends jumped out of there. and with the arm supported this way , you won't damage it. I'm sure you could use a solid piece of steel, aluminum or whatever was handy except I do not think wood will give you the solid support you need.
