A good whack with the BFH to the strut arm right next to the tierod end will make it fall right out, usually. It is a mechanic trick. I have seen it performed a lot. Even on 100k MB cars.
And then, the end being at $27 a piece, usually you can be mean with them anyway and take a pickle fork since you can ruin the boot...
