These offshoots (Rogue one, Solo, and now- Mandalorian), as cliche and merchandised as they are, open new space to creatively write new stories in the original context with no preconceived expectations that inevitably will fall short in some eyes.
I look forward to it (when it shows up in my netflix - or whatever- feed in the future.)
That is all.

IMO, the offshoots of the 90's and early 2000's were great, and are a major reason I liked Star Wars.
Books, games, comics, etc...
The lure of massive merchandising income has had Star Wars much bigger than the movies for a very long time. This isn't recent.
For me, I've had a tough case in that Disney threw out all the old offshoots. So what I knew as "Star Wars" isn't. It doesn't go well in my mind at all to have multiple stories or different reasons for the same events.
Lightsaber color, used to be a choice of crystal that the lightsaber builder used.
Now it is an emotional tie to the user of the lightsaber.
