I know they check weights closely but how about physical dimensions ?
We had a 26 inch hard case spinner that would hold both of our clothes, but would easily go over 50 pounds almost every time. Unfortunately, the airlines won't let 2 people bring on a single bag weighing 60 pounds, but they'll happily let 2 people bring 2 bags weighting 45 pounds each. Stupid. It was also a pain to deal with in any sort of real environment (lines, escalators, bumps in the roads, etc)

We changed to a pair of 20 inch spinners, which hold about the same total amount of actual stuff, and are easier to deal with overall.
