I had a very similar issue when I got my Boxster. Will it stay running if you give it gas after turning it over? Holding the pedal down partially?
On mine it ended up being the idle control valve on the side of the throttle body. I have never read of one failing before, so skipped over it many times diagnosing the problem.
You can try cleaning icv, but it didnt help me. I replaced mine with a bosch unit.
It sounds like you have checked/replaced some of the basics. I'd keep going down the list...air, fuel, spark.
You could check fuel pressure at the rail. How old is your fuel filter?
