Just like a watch. You can buy one that tells time for a couple of bucks or for thousands. I know it sounds like a lot of $$$ for that kind of air cooled hp but that is what it can cost. Lots of custom fabrication involved in a world class build. That is why some are recommending getting a turbo already done to somewhere near what you want. Save the time and some $$. Even used parts like I have ( already sold from multiple inquires ) once restored are not cheap, especially if you have to pay the labor for the rebuild in a 930.
Now you know ( your post ) more about ( gulp) what you could spend depending how deep you want to dive into a turbo build. I'm sure some have spent even more especially to get to the front at the road race track. I bought it already built, and now just had to rebuild it to a higher spec, otherwise just the current parts cost would have been even more. Actually the original build got well over 700 and now over 800 ( crank ). Once you get past 300 wheel / 350 crank or so bolt on HP and go inside to make and handle more HP the cost will increase dramatically.
