I think the protesting goes beyond the killing of George Floyd or any other in the long list of black people killed at the hands of police. I think it’s the idea that black people have or feel like they have a target on their back the minute they leave their homes. As someone who has no idea what that feels like all I can do is try to put myself in their shoes. It has to be stressful to always be on guard. Now, do I think this particular cop was a racist? I have no idea. He definitely had a disregard for George Floyd’s life. I don’t think the protestors (not the rioters or looters) are being racist by chanting Black Lives Matter. I don’t feel threatened as a white man. It’s obvious that all lives matter it’s just that black lives need a lot of help right now.
