If one realizes the enormous influence the corporate world wields over certain government officials via their paid lobbyists, you should be very suspicious of the spin they have/will place on this potential health issue.

For example, I didn't realize they just changed the policy of dragging sick and infirmed cows to slaughter. As part of the MCD prevention program they now separate them from meat meant for human consumption. So, the day before yesterday, we consumed hamburger (albeit a small percentage) made from almost dead cows. Now, we're "safer". Yeah, okay.

The beef industry is also balking at testing each cow for MCD. opting for other statistical means to determine their health. The Japanese, for example, test each cow meant for consumption. Experts estimate about $.13/lb. to test (hope I got that right), something the beef industry doesn't want to do to gain public confidence; instead opting for other assurances that our moo meat is koscher.

And sausage/hot dogs cannot contain brain or brain stem matter, but everything else in the cow is still okay. That's no surprise, just a reminder.

In the scheme of things, straight cuts of meat are going to be safer than hamburger or any processed meat product. The key word is "safer". For red meat eaters, I hope this means "safe", with or without added hormones.

Moses,
Am interested in any net links you have about consuming green stuff and unhealthy side effects.

Tabs,
I don't think the 130+ people who succumbed to MCD reached their desired longevity limit. What would Oscar Meyer say if he were (ever) alive?

Bon appetit,
Sherwood
