The 987 series (the yrs Tony mentions) have the Generation III IMS bearing. It has a 1% chance of failure and was not included in the class action lawsuit filed against Porsche several yrs ago. The lawyers bringing the suit didn't think that was going to help their cause of getting Porsche to pay for the earlier yrs of IMS failures, which was as high as 10% failure rate.
Oil change interval is important to IMS survival. You want an interval of 5-8K mi.
