Presumably, he didn't figure anything. I suspect he found this list somewhere and did a copy paste.
It's not terribly surprising, really. There's lots of Christians, they are everywhere. Remember besides all of the other groups, the Catholics have been around for ~1800 years, and for a bunch of that time, they were actively traveling the globe to find new members. Many/most other Christian groups do the same to some extent.

a page on same site puts Christians ahead, but only by 10%, not 33%. Based on those numbers, that site thinks that there would be 26 Christians and 23 Muslims.

Wikipedia puts it at 31 and 25

I saw a couple of other sites that put the numbers at 31 and 23.
I assume that it's a really hard figure to determine, and lots of guessing and probability is involved.
