This. Having shotgun in your trunk was not noteworthy when I was a kid, and we had a gun rack in our truck. I went to Michigan State in the late 80s, and I remember a kid asking about keeping a gun in his dorm room for hunting. A number of us piled on. We were told that they didn't want guns in your room, but the trunk of your car was just fine. We went on many squirrel/rabbit hunting trips while enrolled at MSU.

Fast forward to my two sons' high school years. We did this backwards, sending them to boarding school in Wisconsin and bringing them home for university here in Washington. Anyway, I would fly to Wisconsin every Thanksgiving to go deer hunting with them. I would venture to say that every room in the boys' dorm had at least a couple of rifles and shotguns in them. Again, never a problem. Not once. Ever.
