Just to close this out, there were two problems. The switch on the counsol apparently had a short in it that was causing the flasher unit to burn out. I replaced the switch with a new one from Pelican, but made the mistake of buying a new flasher from a national parts change because of price and availability. That unit failed almost immediately and caused me to spend several more days trying to track down a problem that didn't really exist. Ordered a new Wehrle branded flasher for Pelican and that cured the problem.
