Wheel changes for EVO brakes?
I've got a 99 non-ABS that I'm bringing back from an accident I had in July of last year. Part of the rebuild involved a "new" front wheel. I put new discs on the new wheel but when I went to tighten the caliper on the left side the wheel froze. Looking at the caliper I could see that the inside pad was tight up against the brake disc. These are pretty well worn pads due for replacement. To shortcut the story I started measuring and all the spacers were correct. The difference was in the measurement (out to out) between the disc mounting surfaces. The new wheel is about a 1/4" narower than the old wheel. bolted the new discs to the old wheel and no problem except that the old wheel is now ugly and way out of true. Is anyone aware of this? Is it an accomadation for the "EVO" brakes? To be fair to the seller I don't think they were aware of this at the time of sale, but I'd like to know before I contact them.
