I don't know how many folks have been led down the "garden path" by using the trouble shooting chart in the Bentley, and thinking they have a bad or maladjusted clutch switch. But I'll bet it's quite a few!

It's an old thread but this helped me with my cruise control issues on my 1987 911.

Mine worked fine but one day I noticed if I depressed the clutch it didn't disengage the CC like it used to do. It's no big deal because I never really change gears with the CC engaged but I like everything to work on my car. I was dreading having to look in the tunnel and replace the clutch switch. Following the steps above I pulled the 4th relay from the front of the car and checked for continuity at #85 on the relay socket when the pedal was depressed. No problems... so clutch switch was fine... good news. With the relay pushed back in and ignition on there was no clicking sound when pushing clutch in and out so I changed the relay to a new one and it's all working as it should again. Cheap and easy fix.
