We did an extended family vacation there a few years back when the kids were small. The Green Bank Radio Telescope Observatory is nearby as well as the Cass Scenic Railroad State Park. Snowshoe also had a sporting clays course if you are interested in that sort of thing. We cooked most of our meals, but did do a date night (with built-in babysitters!) there at the resort and I remember it being acceptable.
