You should
seriously consider installing a front oil cooler. Probably also should have your mechanic check the air fuel mixture to make sure it is not too lean, which can lead to over-heating, which kills those mag case motors.
I'm sure he will be replacing all the rubber hoses....
Sounds like you hit the jackpot on your mechanic. He knows what he is doing on aircooled cars, which is rare, and he is not insisting on a rebuild which is a rabbit hole.
