Early 944s have a removable strut insert. The overall strut housing and strut shaft are thinner, and the cap on the top of the housing screws off (replaceable inserts). The later versions, had the strut as an integral part of the housing and the cap was not removable. To replace you had to replace the entire strut assembly. Koni has made inserts for the later struts that require you to cut off the top, and drill a hole in the bottom. It's not really hard, but does take a little time to do it right.



Springs are a different matter, and if there's no part number visible it's nearly impossible to figure out what OEM spring rate you may have. Best bet is to buy a matched set of aftermarket springs.
