Lots of assumptions being made on this thread about those that attended and showed cars at Luft. I talked to several owners and know several owners and in many instances the owners did their own work. Not everything you saw was a concours, high dollar hot rod or time warp. There were plenty of drivers on hand and plenty that were at the start of their journey into being transformed into whatever the owner decides.

I was parked next to a 68 912 that was a flood car and the owner recently bought the car and is slowly repairing it himself. It barely made it into the event on its own energy.

And yeah there are plenty out there that may not have the skills or the time to do their own work. Does that make them a bad owner? Some seriously jaded folks here if that’s what you think.

What many don’t realize is that the Luft organizers were only able to accept 25% of the cars that were entered and they had already decided that they wanted new/different cars. 200 cars were accepted and another 100 cars were brought in by Porsche. Canepa had some cars there as did Emory and a couple other builders like Singer because they represent the extremes of the hobby and people want to see that.

Next year I’m fairly certain my car won’t make it in which is fine, I’ll still attend and check out what’s there as I know it will be a different set of cars, owners and something new to see and learn.

Now on to what this thread was made for….
