If it is the alternator there is a guy in Brisbane that makes new alternators using all new Bosch parts and machined housing assembly. They are called K3 i think if I remember correctly. I have one in my 3.0 litre and they are a work of art - beautifully made. Let me know if you need for me to chase up the contact number.
Hopefully it is just belt noise which I have heard similar to yours. I would try a set of belts first.
